UKBGS Competition Format

We are excited to kick off another BIG year at UKBGS.

Firstly on behalf of the entire UKBGS committee, we would like to thank all the members of UKBGS; without your participation, support and dedication to UKBGS we would not have progressed beyond our first round of golf at Richings Park Golf Club which was just over a year ago. Both the present and future of golf with UKBGS will become better and better –this is evidenced by our strong membership base as well as our up and coming junior members and so many more new golfers taking up the game.

Your feedback is important to us – it’s how we’ll continue to get better.  We appreciate the comments – both positive and constructive – and are already in the process of making changes, based on the feedback, for the coming year.

So, what does golf mean to you?  the top responses to this question were:

  • Golf is relaxing.
  • Golf is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air with friends and family.
  • Golf provides a (personal) challenge.
  • Golf is a healthy (and fun) way to exercise.
  • Golf allows you to compete with other golfers regardless of ability in a fun and challenging manner.

UKBGS want to encourage all members to get the best out of golf and have lots of fun and competition at each event hosted by UKBGS.

After much deliberation and learning from our experiences in the first year of running monthly competitions as UKBGS we would like to bring you all up to date with the new competition formats which we hope are confident that it will allow all members to enjoy and compete as well to enjoy golf with UKBGS all throughout the golfing year.

UKBGS Monthly Competitions:

UKBGS plan to host 11 events each year from September to August, all of these will be played with the golfers current UKBGS handicap and will be an individual event with full handicap allowance.

Each monthly event will have 3 finishing places 1st, 2nd and 3rd and 1 nearest to the pin and 1 longest drive.

UKBGS Order of Merit (Road to Dhaka):

Order of Merit (Road to Dhaka) which will accumulate points from all 11 events from the UKBGS calendar, there will be 40 Order of Merit points available at each event and points will be awarded based on the golfers finishing position on the day.

Example:

If the golfer;

  • Finishes 1st on the day the golfer will be awarded 40 Order of merit points.
  • Finishes 2nd on the day the golfer will be awarded 39 Order of merit points.
  • Finishes 3rd on the day the golfer will be awarded 38 Order of merit points.
  • Finishes 40th on the day the golfer will be awarded 1 Order of merit point.

This will continue until all the 40 Order of Merit points are awarded depending on the finishing position of the golfer on the day.  The Order of Merit points will be accumulated from all the events attended by each golfer and the golfer with the highest number of Order of Merit points at the end of the last event will be the winner of Order of Merit (Road to Dhaka).

UKBGS Golfer of the Year

Although we hope and like for all UKBGS members to attend all the events in the UKBGS golfing calendar, however we know that life commitments will mean that NOT all members will be able to attend every monthly event hosted by UKBGS, so we have decided to find the UKBGS Golfer of the Year from 6 events each year; you can attend all 11 events however the Golfer of the Year competition will only take into account the golfers best 6 stableford scores for the entire year.

The golfer with the highest amount of points from 6 events will be awarded the Golfer of the Year.
